1887 Restoration

Historic Renovation

project brief:  restore and combine 1960s apartments within an 1877 home
site location: heritage hill historic district
category: professional work - designer and construction manager
phases: schematic design, design development, pricing set, construction set, construction + subcontractor administration

Clients in an 1870s home that had been renovated in the 1920s and divided into apartments in the 1960s sought to combine several apartments into one unified ground floor, simulataneously adding modern conveninces and restoring period style to the space.

Once a single family home, replete with nineteenth century details, the first floor had been split into three small apartments and renovated in the midcentury modern style. The clients sought to combine the apartments and restore period charm to create a unified three bedroom family home.

With minimal intrusions, we were able to connect the apartments and transform a former kitchen and bathroom into a fully functional entryway, mudroom, laundry and powder room which had been sorely lacking in the original space.

Interiors focused on integrating the natural materials, clean lines, and measured textures of the greek revival period. This not only brings the spaces back to period accurate detail, but also provides a neutral backdrop for the client’s many antique furnishings, travel collections, and family momentos.
