A couple with a beloved plot of land that has long served as their weekend camping retreat sought a more substantial lodging that could maintain a light footprint and cohesion with the landscape. Our design team devised a happy medium of modules for the programmatic requirements that could accomodate the couple, their guests, and spaces for wellness, productivity, cooking and relaxing closely alongside the habitat they had grown to love.
Each living space was devised as a singluar structure, which allows the entire residence to sit lightly along the landscape and avoid disturbing any of the heritage coast live oaks that dot the site.
To simulataneously create a sense of interior openess and intimacy with the exterior landscape, each space is vaulted, contains a generous amount of exterior glass pocket doors and intentionally placed skylights.
